Since Alistair comes from a video game where the player can make decisions and thus has a variable world state, I'll outline the decisions that have the most effect on how I play Alistair:

- The player character/Warden/Hero of Ferelden is a human female mage (surname Amell).
- Amell was able to save Connor AND his mother, thanks to help from the mages
- She flirted with Alistair and he gave her a rose, but ultimately she broke it off with him to begin a relationship with Leliana.
- Generally was kind and made peaceful decisions, saving as many people as possible.
- Returned Alistair's mother's amulet to him.
- Also took Alistair to speak with his sister; hardened him.
- Won the Landsmeet, killed Loghain in single combat and supported Alistair and Anora as joint rulers of Ferelden.
- Convinced Alistair to undergo Morrigan's Dark Ritual, so they both survived the final battle.

Personality: Alistair is basically a puppy who just wants you to love him. He can also be childish, pouty and shirk responsibility.

- Class clown: Alistair grew up lonely and rather ignored, a bastard in a noble house, too good to be a servant but not good enough to eat at the table with the family. As such, he sometimes acts out just to get attention - he can be loud, he tries very hard to be charming and funny, is always quick with a self-deprecating joke. He wants to be likable, he wants to make friends, and he likes attention.

- Loyal: Once he finds someone who likes him, he latches on and will be loyal to the end of everything. He will do just about anything for his friends and the people he cares about, even things that he may not like or necessarily want to do. If he likes you enough, you can talk him into it. And he will defend his friends to the death - literally. His own life doesn't mean as much to him as the lives of the people he loves. He'll stand up for them, fight for them, do whatever he thinks he needs to, to keep them safe.

- Uncertain: As much as anything else, Alistair has kind of a low opinion of himself. To some extent, this is just a decent self-awareness, but he also just doesn't believe himself capable of things like being an effective leader. When he and the player character are left as the only Grey Wardens in Ferelden, he is technically the senior Warden, having been in the order for a full six months before the PC is initiated. But he basically foists all the responsibility on the PC, claiming that under his leadership, they would all simply be killed. It's only with the PC's encouragement that he even begins to think he might make a decent king (and even then, he still doesn't really like the idea of all that responsibility on his shoulders). Alistair essentially thinks of himself as little more than an effective meatshield, and is hesitant to try and reach his full potential.

- Compassion: The thing is, Alistair's neglected childhood, his strange non-place in life, could easily have made him bitter, mean-spirited, even cruel. It didn't. Alistair is a kind person, someone who cares about the greater good, who wants to help people in need, no matter who they are, no matter how unimportant. He genuinely cares, and part of why he likes being a Warden is believing that he can do some real good in that position. And he takes the king thing seriously because he wants to do right by the people of Ferelden.

- Daddy issues: Ultimately, what Alistair really wants is a family. His biological parents, as far as he knows, are dead, and the woman he believes to be his half sister is kind of nasty and mean, so he seeks family substitutes, all the time. He was devastated by the loss of Duncan, even though he'd only known the man for less than a year. But Duncan had quickly become a father-substitute for Alistair, and the other Wardens were like the brothers he always wished he'd had. He yearns for that sense of belonging and seeks it out in a lot of his relationships.

Abilities: - Sword and board - Alistair has extensive training in combat with a sword and shield.
- Templar - he also trained as a templar, which are basically the mage police in Thedas. He has some abilities to nullify hostile magic and interrupt spellcasting.
- Does "being ridiculously handsome" count as an ability? No? Okay then.

Okay, hah hah, very funny, you've had your joke, now where are you? And where am I? I'm sure I've got a very important meeting with someone who will be very angry when I don't show up - not that I care much if I'm making the Orlesians angry, it's sort of funny when their faces get all red and they start trying not to swear, but still...

Have I been kidnapped? Has someone kidnapped me? I'm pretty sure kidnapping the king is treason. I can have your head for that. [ He doesn't sound so much angry as... vaguely confused and disoriented. ] Off with your head. Whenever I figure out who you are, I suppose.

Just a quick note I'm happy to take him from any point in the timeline, or assume just about any outcome (my preferences for DA2/DAI era Alistair are King or Warden).

Shipping is fine with any female Warden, also happy to ship him with other ladies if folks would like, just ask! Non-shipping stuff is also great, as are crossovers and various AU flavors.
